The 2019-2020 edition will incorporate a new course among the MArch programmes: MArch Lisbon. Course in the atelier Aires Mateus. It is aimed at students of architecture, architects, building engineers, interior designers, graduates or licensed in other creative disciplines.
This new course, which will be developed in the Aires Mateus studio in Lisbon, will start the April 22nd of 2019 until September 27th of 2019 and it will be taught in a professional environment but has a strong didactic component.
The portuguese studio was founded by Manuel and Francisco Aires Mateus and it is one of the most influential of the current international panorama. The studio has received prizes such as the FAD award and has been finalist of the Mies Van der Rohe award in 2007 and 2013. Manuel Aires Mateus has received the Pessoa Award in 2017.
The course proposes the reflection on architecture using a diverse set of research tools. There will be two main activities to be develop in parallel:
- Execution of a project with the theme “To Inhabit”. The proposal consists in a house in Lisbon. A way to gain knowledge of the city and to reflect on the main theme of “inhabiting”.
- Representation in a bi and tridimensional models of existing projects, searching for the main principles and investigating around the representation through drawings and physical models.
Also, it is complemented with other activities such as visits to ongoing and finished works or a weekend in one of the houses of the studio.
