MArch architects and lecturers Fabrizio Barozzi and Alberto Veiga, recognized with numerous awards and winners of international competitions such as the Szcezcin Philharmonic or the Chicago Art Institute, have now won the competition to develop the restoration project for the Knokke-Heist Casino , in Belgium, with the aim of turning it into a new cultural center.

On this occasion, they have done so in close collaboration with the talented teams at Tab Architects, Barbara Van Der Wee Architects and Mosbach Paysagiste.

This ambitious project aims to transform the casino into a vibrant cultural and entertainment center that promises to revitalize the cultural life of the region. One of the most notable gems of this renovation is the spectacular “Magritte Room,” which houses a masterpiece by renowned surrealist painter René Magritte. This monumental work of art, titled “Enchanting Domain”, spreads across an impressive 72 meters of surface and captivates visitors with its unrivaled expressiveness and creativity. This mural painting is not only an artistic treasure but also an essential component of cultural heritage that will be preserved and highlighted in the new cultural and leisure centre, offering visitors a unique and enriching experience.

The transformation of the Knokke-Heist Casino promises to be an important milestone in the evolution of the region, fusing contemporary architecture with the cultural and artistic wealth of René Magritte. This project represents an exciting chapter in the area’s architectural and cultural landscape and will undoubtedly leave a lasting mark on those who visit.
