MArch International: architecture as a shared language within a global community

Espai Alfaro hosted this week a new edition of MArch International, one of the most representative events of the spirit of the MArch postgraduate school. As every year, the event brought together students from different nationalities in a shared experience where architecture becomes the starting point for a broader cultural exchange.
The day is structured around classroom presentations, in which students, organized in groups, share key aspects of their countries of origin with their peers. Far from being purely academic, these presentations offer a personal and direct perspective on the architecture of their cities and regions, introducing references that are often unfamiliar to others.
However, architecture is not the only focus of the event. Gastronomy, music, traditions, and local customs are also part of a broader narrative that helps to understand how each cultural context shapes ways of living and designing space. This transversal approach turns the event into an immersive experience that goes beyond the discipline itself.
One of the most meaningful moments takes place at the end of the day, when students share typical food and drinks from their countries. This simple gesture reinforces the collective nature of the event and strengthens the bonds among participants, transforming the classroom into a space for connection and exchange.
The significance of MArch International lies largely in the diversity of its community. The school currently hosts students from more than 53 nationalities, a plurality reflected in the richness of the presentations and the wide range of perspectives shared. Countries such as Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, Brazil, Switzerland, Italy, Albania, the Dominican Republic, and India, among many others, shape a global map that comes to life throughout the day.
Beyond the event itself, MArch International highlights one of the core values of the program: the creation of an international academic environment where the exchange of ideas, collaboration, and creativity are driven by cultural diversity. In this context, each student contributes not only knowledge but also a distinct way of understanding the world and architecture.
MArch International thus stands as a key moment in the academic calendar, a day that underscores the global dimension of the school and demonstrates how architecture, beyond its technical nature, can act as a common language capable of connecting cultures, territories, and ways of life.
