The Antonio Pérez Foundation in Cuenca hosts «GRAPHOS», an exhibition by MArch programs lecturer Pepe Gimeno, a multi-award-winning artist and designer, which will be open until September 20th, 2026. Curated by Alberto Adsuara, the showcase delves into the artist’s ability to transform the everyday and the discarded into pieces of aesthetic and conceptual value.
Through this project, Gimeno invites the viewer to reflect on order and chaos, and the value of things, demonstrating that a designer’s gaze is capable of finding treasures where others only see waste.
The core of the exhibition is based on experimental graphic projects such as “Grafía Callada” (Silent Handwriting)—a collection of works exhibited at the IVAM a few years ago—where Pepe Gimeno uses materials collected from beaches to create a language of his own. These works, composed of contemporary pictograms, ideograms, and hieroglyphs, function as an object-book that traces the history of writing from its cuneiform origins to modernity. It is an exercise in synthesis and visual communication that highlights why the author is an essential figure in understanding contemporary design in Spain.
Pepe Gimeno’s career has been recognized with the industry’s highest honor, the National Design Award, a milestone that certifies his technical excellence and his constant search for new languages. His work is characterized by impeccable formal rigor and a unique sensitivity to typography and composition. This national recognition underscores his role as an ethical and aesthetic benchmark, positioning his work at the perfect intersection between plastic arts and cutting-edge graphic design.
Gimeno’s experience provides a transversal vision that connects architecture, design, and art, enriching academic training with lessons on the importance of the creative process, material selection, and the construction of a solid and coherent visual discourse.
