The students of the MArch programs attended a presentation by the 2020 National Design Award winner Pepe Gimeno at the Espai Alfaro.
This session has provided a unique opportunity to learn firsthand about the creative and methodological approaches of a leading figure in the field of graphic design in Spain. With a well-established professional career spanning several decades, the designer has received numerous accolades for his contributions and his ability to construct visually distinct narratives. His career has also included close collaborations with prominent public and private entities.
Many of his works have been strongly linked to the world of architecture and space design. Among his recent projects, the presenter has highlighted the creation of the visual identity for the Architecture House, as well as his renowned previous work developed for the company Roca. During his intervention, he shared how he approaches the design process and has structured his theoretical explanation through four very defined conceptual blocks.
Through this session organization, Pepe Gimeno presented some of his most emblematic projects for the Valencian environment, such as the graphic identity of les Corts Valencianes, the signaling and visual identity system of the Valencia EMT, and the graphic for the young talent platform NUDE. Each of these examples has served to illustrate to the students a rigorous approach based on formal coherence, functionality, and symbolic weight.
In addition to his applied work, the designer has expressed his deep interest in pure artistic creation and his foray into experimental typography. In this sense, he has shared with the students “Pepe,” a custom typeface inspired by an Andy Warhol work. This way, his intervention has offered a broad view of a discipline where form and content merge to produce high-impact communicative solutions.
