The studio RCR Arquitectes celebrates four decades of practice, a trajectory that has established this team as one of the most prominent references in contemporary architecture. This milestone is commemorated through an exhibition at the Museu de la Garrotxa in Olot, open to visitors from March 21 to August 9.

Founded by Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramon Vilalta, the studio was born in Olot and, from there, has built an international career without losing its connection to its place of origin. Their story is also one of a way of understanding architecture rooted in proximity, sensitivity and respect for the environment. International recognition became especially visible in 2017, when they were awarded the Pritzker Prize, considered the most prestigious award in architecture. This recognition firmly placed the studio on the global map and highlighted a career built step by step, بعيد from the usual media spotlight.

The exhibition is titled “Arrels i ales. A journey from the beginnings to the present” and revisits these 40 years by presenting their most well-known projects, as well as the evolution of their working methods, materials and approach to space. In a way, it is a journey through their architectural vision, where each work responds to a specific context and a clear idea of how it should relate to its surroundings. To convey this, the exhibition features models—of different types and scales, with a noticeable predominance of wood—and images of the projects that also speak about the environments in which they are located. These elements have been carefully selected to construct the narrative of the exhibition.

Over these 40 years, RCR has developed a highly recognizable body of work, defined by the relationship between buildings and landscape. Their projects do not seek to impose themselves, but rather to integrate, creating spaces that engage in dialogue with nature and with the people who inhabit them. This consistent and coherent approach over time is one of the keys to their prestige both within and beyond Spain.

Beyond their buildings, RCR’s trajectory reflects a way of working grounded in perseverance and fidelity to their own ideas. Their story demonstrates that it is possible to achieve international projection without renouncing identity or place of origin, becoming an example of how architecture can be, at once, both local and universal.
