Trip to the Salone del Mobile & Milano

From April 23rd to 25th, students from the MArch programs visited Milano Design Week 2026. The first stop was the Brera Design District, where they took part in organized visits to leading showrooms such as Boffi, Gessi, and CEA. This first day allowed them to come into direct contact with the most avant-garde firms within the framework of the Fuorisalone.
The second day was defined by the scale and innovation of the Salone del Mobile at the Rho Fiera venue, where they discovered the latest global trends in furniture and interior design. In the afternoon, they moved to the Tortona and Navigli areas, a nerve center for experimental design. There, students visited architectural and exhibition spaces of great significance, such as Armani Silos and the MUDEC—designed by architect David Chipperfield—broadening their vision of contemporary cultural space management.
The final day of the trip focused on “starchitecture” and the city’s most iconic academic and cultural landmarks. The day began with an exterior visit to the Bocconi University Campus, an outstanding work by SANAA architects, followed by a visit to Fondazione Prada, the cultural complex designed by OMA. These visits offered a new perspective on how contemporary architecture integrates into the Milanese urban fabric and redefines the use of former industrial spaces.
Throughout these days, the highlights were not limited to the stands at the fair itself. Exploring the Fuorisalone is also highly recommended, with visits to spaces such as Patricia Urquiola’s intervention at Casa Brera, the Hermès exhibition at La Pelota, and Sara Ricciardi’s “Chemistry of Happiness” at the Pinacoteca di Brera. Other proposals from major fashion brands that dialogue with design were also explored, such as those by Gucci, Jil Sander, and Issey Miyake, showcasing the cross-disciplinary nature of creative fields.
Finally, the last afternoon was spent visiting the Salone del Mobile once again. This trip has allowed MArch students to discover the trends that will shape design in the coming years, while experiencing firsthand the vibrant atmosphere of the world’s design capital.
