As part of its 40th anniversary, Arkoslight — a company that runs the Light Workshop for students of various MArch programs — has expanded its headquarters in Valencia with a project designed by Francesc Rifé.
Francesc Rifé, also a speaker at MArch and whose studio is visited during the MArch trip to Barcelona, has carried out this extension, which not only expands the physical space but also deepens the relationship between light and architectural space.
The new showroom, which adds to the existing 600 m², maintains the formal coherence of the original design, characterized by minimalism and the use of materials such as black and white steel. New features include meeting rooms, an exterior structure that simulates an outdoor environment, and a conceptual room for ephemeral installations. Vegetation and smoked mirrors act as unifying elements, creating scenes that highlight light as a constructive material capable of generating well-being and emotion.
One of the most notable additions is the conceptual project Feel the Light, an interactive 400 m² space that offers a sensory and playful experience. Through games of refraction, reflection, and audiovisual effects, visitors can explore the fundamentals of light and its impact on the environment. This project represents a new chapter in Arkoslight’s history, focused on experimentation and a deep understanding of light.
The visit to Francesc Rifé’s studio during the Barcelona trip allowed students to appreciate first-hand his approach to light as an essential element in architecture. His ability to integrate lighting into spatial design, creating atmospheres that evoke emotion and sensation, is clearly reflected in this project for Arkoslight. The showroom extension and the Feel the Light project are examples of how light can be used not only as a technical tool but also as an expressive medium in contemporary architecture.
