Located in a privileged natural setting, the Horizon House by RCR Arquitectes is conceived as an extension of the terrain itself, seamlessly blending with the line of the landscape. This single-family home exemplifies the firm’s mastery in blurring the boundaries between the built work and the surrounding nature.
The architectural proposal is organized through a strategy of topographic insertion, where the building appears partially embedded into the hillside to minimize its visual impact. This decision allows the home’s roof to act as a continuous lookout point, integrating into the natural slope and ensuring that the structure does not alter the scale of the surrounding flora and rock formations.
The use of materials is decisive in defining the project, relying on a restrained palette dominated by weathering steel (corten) and dark-toned concrete. This choice of textures and shades brings a remarkable tectonic presence to the ensemble while allowing the house to age organically, progressively blending with the colors of the earth and surrounding vegetation throughout the changing seasons.
Inside, the spaces are structured in a fluid and open layout, prioritizing spatial continuity and the influx of natural light. Large glass panels replace conventional walls on the open facades, transforming the horizon and panoramic views into the true visual enclosure of the main living areas, creating a fully immersive living experience.
The Horizon House summarizes the essential philosophy of RCR Arquitectes, representing an architecture of radical poetic sensitivity and great constructive rigor.
