As in every academic year, the studio Lavernia&Cienfuegos visited MArch to deliver a lecture and kick off a product design workshop.

During the lecture, Alberto Cienfuegos, one of the studio’s founding partners, shared with students some of the most iconic projects developed by the firm in recent years.

He then introduced the workshop, in which students are challenged to design the packaging for a perfume—an exercise that demands both conceptual precision and visual sensitivity. Through the development of the project, students work with tools and methodologies used in professional settings, exploring the product’s identity, its visual narrative, and its presence in the market. The exercise serves not only as a design practice but also as a realistic simulation of a client commission, testing creativity, analytical skills, and decision-making under pressure.

Alberto Cienfuegos is a designer with a solid career and multiple national and international awards. His work has been recognized by prestigious institutions such as the Type Directors Club of New York and the Pentawards—specialized in packaging design—as well as by major Spanish awards such as the LAUS and the Delta. These accolades highlight his ability to create design solutions that combine functionality, aesthetics, and strong market positioning.

Cienfuegos has also maintained a consistent academic presence, sharing his experience as a lecturer at leading institutions such as EASD Valencia, ELISAVA in Barcelona, and the Universidad Tecnológica de Navarra. His teaching approach aims not only to convey design techniques but also to foster a critical and reflective attitude toward creative processes, bringing students closer to real industry standards and encouraging strategic thinking.
