Architects Lucía Ferrater and Núria Ayala, partners at the studio OAB · Ferrater, delivered a lecture addressed to MArch students in which they shared a selection of representative projects from their professional trajectory.
In this session, they presented their way of understanding architecture through built works and design processes developed in very diverse contexts.
During the lecture, they presented residential projects located in different parts of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, in which the project is constructed from a careful reading of the place, the climate, and ways of living. These works opened up a reflection on the relationship between architecture and context, as well as on the capacity of the project to adapt to specific territorial and cultural realities.
The lecture also included international projects developed in countries such as Turkey, broadening the perspective toward other geographical and regulatory contexts. Through these examples, Ferrater and Ayala showed how the studio approaches residential design through a shared logic, maintaining a conceptual coherence that transcends location while adapting to each specific environment.
Alongside these works, several projects located in the city of Barcelona were presented, where architecture confronts a more complex and consolidated urban condition. In these cases, the reflection focused on the relationship with the existing urban fabric, the organization of the program, and the construction of domestic spaces capable of engaging with the city through a close and precise scale.
The lecture took place in the auditorium on the 8th floor of the College of Architects of Catalonia, a space designed by the studio Peris and Toral Arquitectes, which provided the setting for a session that concluded with a Q&A round with the students.
