New Lebond Watch by Norman Foster

Renowned architect Norman Foster has unveiled his first mechanical wristwatch, designed in collaboration with Asier Mateo’s firm, Lebond Watches, and the Innovation and Design Unit of the Norman Foster Foundation.
The project translates Norman Foster’s architectural philosophy—focused on structure, materials, and functionality—to the scale of an everyday object. The design’s most distinctive formal gesture is the removal of conventional lugs. In this way, the FKM rubber strap integrates as a continuous extension of the Grade 5 titanium case, wrapping around it to achieve a fluid profile and an optimal fit on the wrist, while enabling an interchangeable system of interconnected elements.
With a diameter of 38.5 mm (widening to 40 mm where it meets the strap) and a thickness of 10 mm, the timepiece balances a compact footprint with the functional clarity characteristic of aviation, one of Foster’s great passions. The watch features a 12-hour bidirectional rotating bezel to read a second time zone, refined typography, and hands equipped with Super-LumiNova to ensure instant legibility. It comes in two versions: the Natural Titanium Edition (featuring a micro-sandblasted titanium case and a sunray-brushed dial) and the Black Edition (featuring a matte black DLC-coated case and a black lacquered dial).
On the caseback, protected by a rear sapphire crystal, the Swiss automatic movement ETA 2892-A2 is revealed. The oscillating weight (rotor) has been customized with a perforated architectural geometric design in red or blue, depending on the edition, bringing transparency to the beauty of the internal mechanism. Furthermore, each produced unit is individually numbered and includes a titanium deployant clasp.
Beyond its significance in the realm of industrial design, this project carries a social and educational mission. All royalties received by the Norman Foster Foundation from this collaboration will be dedicated entirely to funding the academic programs of the Norman Foster Institute, supporting the education of future generations of architects and urban leaders committed to developing more sustainable cities.
