Restoration of Castell de Raymat by Francesc Rifé

The renowned interior designer Francesc Rifé, who recently visited MArch to share his projects with our students, is the author of the intervention that has been carried out in the Castell de Raymat, in Lleida, to condition it and adapt it to the needs of the current owners.

Although the first phase of the restoration has already been completed, Rifé’s stamp can be appreciated in the project, having reconverted the outdoor spaces to make them usable and comfortable, using, in some cases, ipe wood to give place to new terraces that now occupy the space previously destined for pond. At another point, and using a metallic envelope, a box has been generated that is inserted into the ground to create a cabin that houses a conference room. In the immediate exterior to this, some stands on one side and some stairs, communicate with the two levels of the castle.

Interior designer and industrial designer, Francesc Rifé (Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, 1969) founded his studio in Barcelona in 1994. Influenced by minimalism, and marked by a family history linked to crafts, he articulates all his work around spatial order and the geometric proportion. He also shows a special attraction for noble materials that he will never abandon.

Francesc Rifé currently leads a team of professionals from different fields of design and his national and international projects range from interior design to industrial design, architecture, concept creation, installations, graphics and artistic direction. During his career he has won several design awards such as the Contract World Awards, the Red Dot, ICFF Editors Awards, the HIP Award in Chicago, the FAD Awards and several ASCER awards.

His work has been widely reported in the general press as well as in specialized national and international publications and books. Likewise, several books have been published that compile his most outstanding works. For years he has dedicated himself to teaching and has an active role in workshops, congresses and conferences.
