MArch has carried out its trip to Porto with the aim of exploring renowned Portuguese architecture, visiting key works by some of the most influential studios and architects such as Álvaro Siza and NOarq.

During the trip, students also had the opportunity to meet with prominent architects including Correia/Ragazzi, José Carlos Oliveira and António Choupina, who shared their perspectives and professional experience.

Porto is regarded as one of the main centres of Portuguese architecture, a tradition internationally admired for its innovative approach and its close relationship with the surrounding context. This trip offered students the chance to experience firsthand the work of leading figures in the region, gaining insight into their most representative projects as well as the ideas that underpin their architectural thinking.

Throughout the itinerary, they visited the practices of Correia/Ragazzi, José Carlos Oliveira —director of NOarq— and António Choupina, whose reflections enriched the academic experience. They also explored some of Álvaro Siza’s most celebrated works, such as the Piscinas das Marés, a remarkable example of integration with the Atlantic landscape, and the Serralves Foundation, where they were able to enjoy an exhibition of models by the prestigious Japanese studio Kengo Kuma. These visits allowed students to delve into both the technical and conceptual precision of the works and the cultural impact of Portuguese architecture internationally.

The itinerary also included visits to contemporary projects by NOarq, highlighting the breadth and diversity of approaches that define Portugal’s current architectural scene. This trip not only enhances the students’ academic training but also offers them an immersive experience in a real context, connecting theoretical knowledge with its practical application in works of significant architectural and cultural value.
