Between April 8th and 13th, students from the MArch Advanced Master’s programs in Architecture, Design, and Business Administration, the MArch in Architecture, Design and Innovation, and the MArch Postgraduate in Digital Design and Innovation had the opportunity to attend the Salone del Mobile in Milan—considered by many to be the most influential design fair in the world.
This experience allowed students not only to immerse themselves in the latest trends of the industry but also to understand how this major event continues to expand beyond the fairgrounds, turning the entire city into a vibrant, active stage for creativity, design, and architecture.
Thursday was dedicated to the Fuorisalone, where the group began their day with a visit to Casa Gessi, a space that blends design, technology, and well-being. They then explored the Brera district—one of the most dynamic hubs during this week—visiting showrooms along Via Manzoni and nearby streets. There, they experienced installations and exhibitions by brands such as Hermès, Loewe, and Boffi, along with immersive experiences like Es Devlin’s installation at the Pinacoteca di Brera, which poetically merged art, light, and scenography.
Friday focused on the visit to the Salone del Mobile fairgrounds, where this year’s edition centered around Euroluce, the exhibition dedicated to lighting design. The students visited visually striking stands by Vibia, Redo Group, and Grupo MCI—all designed by Francesc Rifé—as well as those by Davide Groppi and Artemide. They also explored other standout proposals within the venue, such as the Gandia Blasco stand by Kengo Kuma, DAFTaboutDRAFT by Taiju Yamashita, and the Marset stand, developed for this edition by the Mesura studio. To wrap up the day, the group headed to the Navigli area to further explore the Fuorisalone along Via Tortona, ending the afternoon with a visit to MUDEC—the Museum of Cultures designed by David Chipperfield.
Saturday, the final day of the trip, was dedicated to visiting some of Milan’s most prominent landmarks in contemporary architecture. The day began with a tour of Stefano Boeri’s Bosco Verticale area, an urban sustainability icon, and continued with a visit to the Bocconi University campus extension, one of SANAA’s most iconic projects in Europe. To conclude the trip, the students visited the Fondazione Prada, the cultural complex designed by OMA, which combines pre-existing industrial architecture with new interventions, offering a unique experience that connects art, space, and architectural experimentation.
