On November 7th, journalist and cultural agitator Vicent Molins gave a lecture at MArch titled “A Profession: Working for the Power of Place”.

Throughout his talk, Molins discussed the importance of observing and understanding the environment one belongs to as a starting point for any creative or transformative process. This reflection, which runs through much of his work, calls for the recovery of observation as a tool to build a collective identity and an urban narrative consistent with the territory.

During the session, students explored how the connection between people and spaces can generate strong communities. Through examples of cultural and urban projects developed in Valencia, Molins analyzed the role of strategic activism as a driving force for change and social cohesion. In his words, the contemporary challenge for cities lies in restoring the self-esteem of their inhabitants and encouraging the participation of new voices in shaping the urban narrative.

Another central theme of the lecture was communication as a form of accompaniment and living cartography. Molins emphasized how culture, architecture, and media can act as bridges between geography and citizenship, turning spaces into platforms for encounter. Cases such as La Marina, the Centre del Carme, or Bombas Gens served to illustrate how the transformation of public space can lead to a civic movement that redefines the way the city is inhabited.

He also invited students to reflect on the need to broaden influence toward new audiences, generating urban narratives capable of transcending the local while remaining authentic. Through his experience and projects such as Benvinguda or Ciudad Clickbait, he proposed understanding communication not only as dissemination but as a form of activism that gives voice to places. His lecture at MArch thus became a call to observe, connect, act, accompany, and expand — five verbs that summarize his way of working for the power of place.
