Inside the M06 module, which is dedicated to graphic and product design, Alberto Cienfuegos, designer and partner at the Lavernia & Cienfuegos studio, conducted a workshop focused on developing an object.
The project centered on designing a perfume bottle, using the formal, conceptual, and sensory identity of an architect or architecture firm as a starting point. The assignment challenged participants to translate architectural language into product language, taking on the task of shifting materials, proportions, and atmospheres into an everyday object.
Organized into groups, the students developed their proposals based on prior research, where they had to gather references inspired by architecture studios. Each team interpreted the core elements of architectural language through volume, texture, color, typography, and the product’s user experience.
This exercise demands both conceptual precision and visual sensitivity. Throughout the project’s development, students work with tools and methodologies specific to the professional environment, exploring product identity, visual narrative, and market presence. The brief serves not only as a design practice but also as a realistic simulation of a client commission, testing creativity, analytical skills, and decision-making under pressure.
The submitted works are highly diverse, ranging from restrained proposals to more sculptural and expressive ones. Students often opt for geometric abstraction, while others explore resources such as translucency, fragmentation, or the use of unexpected materials. The aim is to emphasize the coherence between concept, form, and function, as well as the groups’ ability to build a solid narrative around the design.
