750 Models. 25 Years of Handmade Thinking

This Thursday, October 16th, Espai Alfaro will host the opening of an exhibition that traces twenty-five years of architectural exploration by Fran Silvestre Arquitectos through one of their most distinctive working tools: the model.

Far from being understood as a mere representation of the built project, this exhibition reveals how the physical model becomes a true instrument of spatial research—a material way of thinking that accompanies and, at times, precedes drawing or digital visualization.

Each model on display embodies a decision, a pursuit of precision and clarity that defines the studio’s language. Crafted by hand, these pieces not only allow experimentation with geometry, scale, and proportion, but also act as catalysts for uncovering hidden relationships between space and function. In this sense, Fran Silvestre’s work transcends the conventional limits of architectural design, at times approaching processes closer to sculpture.

The exhibition brings together a selection of models encompassing different typologies and contexts, from single-family homes to public interventions. Although varied in size or program, all projects share a common sensitivity toward abstraction and formal restraint. The models do not merely act as scaled reproductions but as territories where atmospheres are tested, transitions refined, and forms distilled to their most essential expression.

This exhibition offers an opportunity to delve into the core of the studio’s architectural thinking, within a space as meaningful as Espai Alfaro—where the dialogue between art, design, and architecture is part of the place’s very DNA. The exhibition not only celebrates a trajectory but also reclaims the model as a living tool of creation, capable of revealing the invisible and building a more direct, almost tactile, relationship with the ideas that define contemporary dwelling.
