On May 10th, the 19th edition of the Venice Architecture Biennale opened its doors and will remain on view until November 23rd, 2025.

Under the title “Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective.”, the event, curated by architect and urban planner Carlo Ratti, explores how architecture can integrate natural, artificial, and collective intelligences to address contemporary challenges such as climate change, digitalization, and social justice. The exhibition spans the Giardini, the Arsenale, and other venues throughout the city, transforming Venice into a living laboratory of architectural ideas and proposals.

With participation from over 750 professionals and 66 national pavilions, this edition stands out for its transdisciplinary approach and strong commitment to sustainability. The Spanish Pavilion presents “Internalities: Architectures for Territorial Equilibrium,” an exhibition featuring 16 projects that address architecture from a territorial balance and sustainability perspective, with special attention to initiatives in the Balearic Islands. Meanwhile, the Uruguayan Pavilion focuses on water management as a key element for the future of architecture.

Among the most notable pavilions, the Holy See has transformed the church of Santa Maria Ausiliatrice into a social center and restoration school, aligning with the ecological and human principles of Pope Francis’s Laudato Si encyclical. Additionally, the Japanese Pavilion features an installation that reflects on reuse and mass consumption in architecture, while the Australian Pavilion explores Indigenous knowledge systems as a foundation for sustainable architectural design.

The Venice Biennale 2025 thus consolidates itself as a space for reflection and experimentation, where diverse visions of the future of architecture converge. The combination of technology, nature, and community in the featured proposals offers a hopeful and critical lens through which to reimagine how we build more equitable and resilient environments. This edition invites both professionals and the general public to reconsider the role of architecture in a world undergoing constant transformation.
